In the 49ers’ dominating victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Christian McCaffrey fell barely shy of history.

Despite San Francisco’s best efforts, McCaffrey, who came into the game having scored a touchdown in 17 straight games, was unable to find the end zone against the Jaguars. With eighteen games remaining, he would have broken the record for most consecutive touchdowns.

For NFL bettors, it also signaled the end of a winning streak. The 49ers player also had a funny message for his fans who cheer for touchdowns at any moment.

McCaffrey apologized profusely for not scoring, according to ESPN Bet. “I let you down. I betrayed the faith you placed in me.

According to John Ewing of BetMGM, McCaffrey was -250 to score a touchdown against the Jaguars in Week 10, despite oddsmakers’ best efforts to discourage bettors from taking chances. In late September, McCaffrey was listed as -320 to score; yes, the prop reached insane proportions.

Following the game, McCaffrey grinned and said to reporters, “Yeah, I suck,” according to NBC Sports Bay Area. “Everyone on the team except for me scored.”

In Week 11, McCaffrey and the 49ers play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Even though Tampa Bay has given up the sixth-fewest running touchdowns so far this year, it’s reasonable to assume that oddsmakers will remember McCaffrey’s run even if it is now over.
