Cowboys star Micah Parsons sends message to critics of struggling rookie QB Bryce Young

During the first half of his debut NFL season, Bryce Young, a fellow rookie signal-caller, has experienced significantly less success than his teammate C.J. Stroud, who has taken the league by storm for the Houston Texans.

Young has turned into a punching bag for those who previously questioned the former Heisman Trophy winner’s viability as a franchise quarterback after throwing just one touchdown to three interceptions in his last two games.

Despite Young’s early setbacks, Dallas Cowboys standout Micah Parsons was ready to defend him on Tuesday, telling the Panthers quarterback to have patient during an appearance on the podcast “The Edge.”

Therefore, Parsons stated, “I don’t think we should just throw Bryce away just yet.” “I believe we ought to grant him the same grace we extended to everyone else and give him a few extra years. Look at how great guys like Trevor Lawrence are doing; even they had trouble in their first year.”

Parsons said, “Give him time, let him break out.” “It’s not this year, but I think Bryce Young will have his breakthrough year.”

Young has reportedly been among the worst passers in the league in 2023. This season, only Ryan Tannehill (who was benched by the Tennessee Titans) had a lower QBR than Young’s 33.2.

Carolina’s 185.2 yards per game through the air is good for 27th place in the NFL; however, their only passing performance of 250 yards or more occurred in a game in which Young was sidelined with an injury (Andy Dalton tallied 361 yards in Week 3).

Though Young hasn’t produced much, Parsons is right to keep a guy in the game thus early in his career. Carolina’s offensive line lacks talent. This year, no Panthers rushing back has averaged more than 3.7 yards per carry. The 33-year-old Adam Thielen has been the team’s primary wideout because youngster Jonathan Mingo (who has 23 receptions and 0 touchdowns) has not yet established himself in the starting lineup.

Young still has a chance to establish himself as the NFL’s starting quarterback. But, given the current makeup of the Panthers, don’t count on Young to play above average for the duration of the season.
