It was among the few plays the Jaguars were able to execute successfully against the 49ers defense.

The 49ers’ commanding victory over the Jaguars was largely due to their strong rebounding performance, particularly on defense.

It was reassuring to see the 49ers defense look elite once more after they had lost their previous two games. Still, there’s one defensive area where the 49ers need to get better. They are protecting against screen plays in that region.

It was among the few plays the Jaguars were able to execute successfully against the 49ers defense. For them, that has actually been a problem for a significant portion of the season. The 49ers need to figure out a way to lessen their vulnerability to screen plays because they are extremely prone to being destroyed by them.

According to Kyle Shanahan, “that is one weakness when you play some zone coverages.” “Rushing as aggressively as we do might occasionally be a weakness. These are the weaknesses of some of that stuff, which has always been a problem for teams that play our style or are in passing situations, not just for us.

“People won’t go just because they have grown tired of us. They will continue to arrive in increasing numbers. I believed that we occasionally let that trickle out, particularly in the second and fourth quarters. However, we must improve on that as there seems to be a bit too much room when they strike us on them.

Screen plays are usually successful when facing top-tier pass-rushing defenses. By doing this, you can fool the rushing defense and render their forceful uphill attempt to intercept the quarterback useless. This is not the 49ers defense’s only problem for 2023. They have experienced problems with it in previous seasons. Since they have the speed, they typically just learn to live with it.

But clearly it hasn’t been enough this season. Now, it is just one type of play that is hurting the 49ers defense and it won’t be called constantly. So, the fix here could lie with Steve Wilks in predicting when those screens are going to happen to inform his players to be prepared for it. I’m sure it’ll be a talking point throughout this week since Shanahan wants it to be tightened up.
