The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27-14 on Sunday to improve to 7-3, but they also suffered a big setback to their defense.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has verified that safety Talanoa Hufanga sustained a ruptured ACL in San Francisco’s Week 11 victory, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Due to the injury, the 2022 first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl pick will miss the rest of the 2023 campaign.

According to the team’s official website, Shanahan informed reporters about Hufanga, “He started out well.” “He had a little slump during the season, but against Jacksonville, he had one of his best games. Though I believed he would have a fantastic year in the end, I assumed the same thing would occur here.

In the third quarter of Sunday’s game, Hufanga sustained an injury. San Francisco substituted rookie Ji’Ayir Brown for him. With 3:38 left in the game, the Penn State product helped the 49ers win with an interception, three passes deflected, a quarterback hit, and four total tackles.

Brown will now start for the 49ers in San Francisco as they attempt to live up to their Super Bowl dreams. When Hufanga’s season-ending injury was announced on Monday, a lot of people commented on social media.
