Even with Stroud’s outstanding performance, Houston lost its three-game winning run.

With 34 seconds remaining in the Week 12 NFL season in 2023, kicker Matt Ammendola missed a 58-yard field goal attempt that would have forced overtime, but the Jacksonville Jaguars (8-3) rallied for a 24-21 road victory over the Houston Texans (6-5) at NRG Stadium.

Ammendola, 26, missed a 49-yard field goal attempt in the first half of Sunday’s game, despite having a career-best 49-yard field goal conversion. Even so, it appeared as though the 58-yarder might just about clear the bottom post until it got in the way.

To exact revenge on the Texans, the Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence passed for 364 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 at home. Jacksonville is now leading the AFC South with a sizable margin.

Lawrence, 24, also completed a pass for a second straight game with an interception. Early in the second half, his ball near midfield was intercepted by Derek Stingley Jr.

Second overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, quarterback CJ Stroud of the Texans completed his pass attempt with 306 yards and two touchdowns. Even with his outstanding effort, Jacksonville won back-to-back games and ended Houston’s three-game winning streak.

CJ Stroud pulls off ‘Baby Boy’ celebration

With 11 games played, Stroud, 22, has now surpassed Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (3,224) for the most passing yards by a rookie in NFL history with 3,268 yards this season.

Midway through the third quarter, Stroud scored on a touchdown rush, giving the Texans a one-point lead against the Jaguars. Together with his teammates, he then launched into a brand-new celebration that included a clip from the 2001 thriller “Baby Boy.”

George Fant, a Texans tackle, does an excellent job of appearing as though he was gravely injured as he falls to the ground when Stroud pretends to punch him.

On Monday, December 4, the Jaguars will host the Cincinnati Bengals, and on Sunday, December 7, the Texans will play the Denver Broncos at home.
