Tight end for the Eagles Dallas Goedert returned to Eagles practice on Friday ahead of the game against the 49ers.

Dallas Goedert of the Philadelphia Eagles returned to practice on Friday for the first time since suffering a fractured forearm against the Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 5.

Goedert, 28, did not show up for the first two days of this week.

Since the bye week, Goedert has missed both games against the Chiefs and the Bills. But there’s a reason he wasn’t placed on injured reserve by the Eagles. If they had placed Goedert on injured reserve, he would have had to miss four games. By not placing him on injured reserve, the Eagles indicated that they expected him to play in either the 49ers or Cowboys game next week.

Even if he is unable to play against the 49ers on Sunday, Goedert’s return to practice on Friday implies he may be ready to face the Cowboys in Week 14.

On Friday afternoon, the Eagles must disclose game designations for the 49ers game.

Along with Goedert, fellow tight end Grant Calcaterra (ankle) practiced on Friday after missing the Bills game and the first two days of practice this week.

While a pair of tight ends returned on Friday, the Eagles were still without Fletcher Cox (groin) and Zach Cunningham (hamstring). Both were present at practice, but only as observers. During the first half of practice, Cox worked on a side field.

It’s unusual for players to play multiple games in a week when they haven’t practiced, but Cox is a 12-year veteran who seldom misses games. So we’ll have to wait and see what happens there.

Lane Johnson (groin) is expected to return against the 49ers for the Eagles. He took part fully in Thursday’s practice and returned to the field in uniform on Friday morning.

At practice, the Birds also had a guest. DeSean Jackson announced his retirement as an Eagle on Friday and immediately proceeded to the practice field. He played with a few receivers and some former teammates, including Jason Kelce.
