Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers may have a future in soccer after he retires from the NFL. At the very least, he’d have the flopping part down.

On Sunday, McCaffrey had a comical attempt to get a 15-yard penalty against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was being held up at the end of a play when Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox tossed him a coin. Cox is a large, strong man, but the way McCaffrey launched himself didn’t persuade anyone to throw the flag.

He certainly did not persuade the official, who chuckled and clapped McCaffrey on the helmet as he rose from the ground. It’s worth noting that the NFL’s official social media channels were amused.

Some NBA players who try to elicit a charge call would grimace at such antics.

Fortunately, McCaffrey’s abilities outweigh his flailing. He scored again in the Niners’ 42-19 victory on Sunday, his 17th touchdown of the season. That equaled Jerry Rice for the second-most in a season for a 49ers player, trailing only Rice’s record of 23.

It’s a good thing for McCaffrey that Cox’s violent toss didn’t knock him out for a spell. McCaffrey collapsed like if he’d been hit by a truck. Perhaps it will work the next time, Christian.
