San Francisco 49ers have added former New England Patriots defensive back Logan Ryan to their outstanding roster.

While the 2-10 Patriots’ glory days continue to fade in the rearview mirror, relics of their dynasty can be found all throughout the league. The NFC-leading 49ers have signed former New England two-time Super Bowl champion Logan Ryan to help shore up their ailing secondary.

Ryan was picked in the third round by the Patriots in 2013 and helped them win two championships. After appearing in 16 postseason games, the 32-year-old brings plenty of big-game experience to San Francisco.

Ryan went on to play for the Titans, Giants, and Buccaneers after leaving Foxboro. The Niners recently lost safeties Talanoa Hufanga and George Odum to injuries.

Given the Patriots’ historically bad offense, you wouldn’t think signing one of their cast-offs would be a wise move. Nonetheless, in the aftermath of losing Kenny Pickett to injury, the Steelers have signed former New England quarterback Trace McSorley.

Pickett had ankle surgery on Monday and will miss Thursday’s game against the Patriots. McSorley will be signed to the practice squad for the time being, as he will be replaced by Mitch Trubisky and backed up by Mason Rudolph.

McSorley was with the Patriots for two weeks during the preseason, throwing one pass and was sacked once in the team’s last preseason game against the Titans. Three days later, he was fired.
