After a rout of the Philadelphia Eagles last week, the San Francisco 49ers are still trying to add to their already stacked roster.

San Francisco recently hired two-time Super Bowl champion defensive back Logan Ryan to fill the void left by All-Pro Talanoa Hufanga’s season-ending ACL tear.

It appears that general manager John Lynch and company are aiming to bolster the offensive side of the ball.According to The Athletic’s Matt Barrows, San Francisco is “believed to be one of the teams most interested in” three-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz.

The division-rival Arizona Cardinals just released Ertz, 33, after he returned from a quad injury that cost him five games earlier in the season. Trey McBride had taken over as the Cardinals’ starting tight end, prompting Ertz to request a trade.

Zach Ertz stats: 709 receptions, 7,434 yards, 46 TD

Adding another capable pass-catcher tight end makes a lot of sense. While George Kittle is one of the top players at his position, there is very little depth behind him.

San Francisco 49ers could add Zach Ertz to the mixKittle (50 receptions, 735 yards, 5 touchdowns) is one of the game’s top tight ends. Having said that, the other 49ers tight ends have caught two catches for 21 yards this season.

Kyle Shanahan, the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, frequently employs two-tight end formations, with one serving as the primary blocker. Given that Kittle is one of the best blocking tight ends in the game, adding Ertz makes a lot of sens

Prior to his injury, the Pro Bowler had 27 receptions for 187 yards in seven games for the Cardinals. Ertz averaged 75 receptions for over 800 yards with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2014 to 20. During the 2021 season, he was traded to Arizona.

Kittle and running back Christian McCaffrey, as well as wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel, are already great skill-position players for the 49ers.

With a record of 9-3, San Francisco is considered one of the NFL’s top Super Bowl hopefuls. The club scores nearly 30 points every game. Ertz would undoubtedly be a luxury that the 49ers could afford.
