Perhaps the San Francisco 49ers will be on the market for another wide receiver in the near future. Assume the front management wants to hear from running back Christian McCaffrey. In that scenario, he’ll almost certainly be outspoken in his recommendation—a Rice wideout named Luke McCaffrey, who happens to be his younger brother.

“I would love to play with him one day,” the older McCaffrey told reporters after Thursday’s practice in the 49ers locker room. “Wouldn’t that be the coolest thing ever?” So I’m excited for him and his path, and I know he’ll only grow better.”

Luke, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 200 pounds, caught 68 passes for 963 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, averaging 14.2 yards per catch.

“Yeah, I’ve watched every single snap of every game,” Christian replied. “It’s been amazing to watch him. I enjoy seeing him more than I do anything else. That is my absolute favorite thing on the globe.”

Luke is an ex-quarterback. This season, the Rice wideout was named first-team All-AAC.

Christian gave his brother a full scouting report, saying, “If I’m a scout, he’s got every tool you need.” He’s quick, huge, and powerful. He is capable of playing any position. [49ers running backs coach] Bobby Turner often says that the biggest praise you can pay someone is that they are a football player, which he is. Look at how many SportsCenter top catches he had or anything.”

Obviously, the notion of having the McCaffrey brothers on the field together excites the 49ers running back.
