In recent weeks, the Seattle Seahawks have endured a rough stretch. They are on a three-game losing streak and their postseason chances are dwindling as they prepare to face the San Francisco 49ers in Week 14. To make matters worse, starting quarterback Geno Smith has a new cause of concern.

Smith has been suffering with a bruised triceps on his throwing arm for some weeks. He hasn’t missed any games, but the effects of the injury are visible as Smith stretches and tries to remain flexible on the sidelines.

While the Seahawks have been doing their best to keep an eye on it, they now have another issue to deal with. Smith was listed as out with a groin strain on Thursday and was a limited participant in practice.

This is a concerning development for the Seahawks. Smith revealed to reporters on Wednesday that his arm was still not 100 % or close to it, so adding another issue to deal with will be difficult.

If the Seahawks want to pull off the upset over the 49ers this weekend, Smith must perform at a high level. Something akin to what he and the offense accomplished against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football in Week 13 would be ideal.

Smith and the Seahawks scored 35 points in a high-scoring game in which neither team punted the ball. Unfortunately for Seattle, they came up short, falling 41-35 and dropping their season record to 6-6.

“I think just overall, if you look at the way we played, just the effort we played with, the intent that we broke the huddle with, just the way that the receivers ran and caught the ball, the protection, anytime you’re scoring a lot of points, that’s something that you want to build on,” Smith told reporters after the game.

“We know that each game will be different, that each game is a different game.” You are given a new set of downs, and we must concentrate on executing one play at a time. We can build on it, but we must not get complacent as a result. We have to go out there and earn it each and every time.”

This season, the Cowboys have shown signs of becoming a great defense, but they aren’t on the same level as the 49ers. San Francisco has dominated opponents all season, which could make for a lengthy Sunday for Smith and the Seahawks offense, especially if he is handicapped in more than one way.
