Before 49ers quarterback DK Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks was sent off during Sunday’s 28-16 victory at Levi’s Stadium, the team’s coach allegedly offered his group some holiday cheer if they could get under the wideout’s skin.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Mike Silver, Shanahan foresaw Metcalf’s in-game meltdown during a team meeting on Saturday night. The 49ers players were given incentive to provoke a similar outburst during their Week 14 matchup by seeing video clips of the receiver’s past incidents.

According to Silver, Shanahan reportedly threatened to “get ’14’ to lose his mind” before sarcastically saying, “Christmas present for whoever gets him.”

It appears that Shanahan will soon receive Fred Warner’s Christmas list.

Late in Sunday’s game, Warner intercepted a pass intended for Seahawks backup quarterback Drew Lock, which led to a confrontation between Metcalf and the 49ers linebacker. Warner shoved Metcalf’s head into the turf after Metcalf slammed him to the ground after a tackle, sparking a brawl in the middle of the field.

“Well, I’m not sure what went wrong, dude,” Warner said to reporters following the match. “I told him how good a tackler he is, but he didn’t seem to like it. Whatever occurred, I suppose, happened. It’s too bad, dude.

“[He’s] got to learn to keep is composure, but happy we came out with the dub.”

After the altercation, Shanahan’s players held up their half of the agreement, even though it may have happened a little later than expected. Metcalf and 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir were both dismissed.

With 49ers’ top cornerback, Charvarius Ward, out due to a groin injury, Metcalf finished the game with two receptions for 52 yards and a 31-yard touchdown.

The No. 9-seeded Seahawks’ chances of seeing the 49ers in the NFC playoffs are still unknown, but after sweeping Seattle this season, San Francisco will undoubtedly try to defeat Metcalf once more.
