The San Francisco 49ers have dominated each of their past five opponents with impressive performances on both the offensive and defensive ends of the ball since they returned from their bye in Week 10.

With a final score of 28-16, the 49ers maintained their domination against the division foe Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

A little altercation broke out between San Francisco and Seattle during the game when Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf grabbed 49ers defender Fred Warner’s facemask.

According to Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle (via OurSF49ers on Twitter), head coach Kyle Shanahan of San Francisco reportedly included irritating Metcalf in his game plan. Shanahan even made a playful Christmas gift pledge to any player who could get under the receiver’s skin.

Shanahan is aware that succeeding in the NFL is about more than simply physical prowess; it’s also about winning the mental game.

One of Seattle’s greatest players, Metcalf was willing to have his head taken out of the game if it meant getting under his skin. The 49ers were prepared to do that.

This kind of behavior only serves to highlight how much more advanced San Francisco is in terms of weekly progress compared to several other NFL teams.

In addition to having the players on the field with the ability to win, the 49ers’ coaching staff will work hard to exploit their opponents’ greatest vulnerabilities.

They have been outplaying their rivals these past several weeks in part because of this combo.
