Ji’Ayir Brown, a safety with the 49ers, is having a good start to his career. He has a nose for the football and creates plays. The Niners third-round rookie safety is clearly prepared to make a significant and high-caliber contribution to one of the league’s top defenses.

When Brown joined Richard Sherman on his podcast, he was asked when he experienced his “Welcome to the NFL moment,” which is a common occurrence for rookies. Brown arrived at the training camp:

“Dude, it was [George] Kittle.” He is quite cunning. Without a doubt, Kittle was responsible. He is quite cunning. His tempo? He is able to run. Man, he can run. Using one of his favorite routes, he defeated me. Think of Kittle’s touchdown against the Seahawks as an example of his little stock-wheel route, in which he appears to be blocking you but then simply leaves the area. I was anticipating it, but I was surprised by his outburst. At that sideline, he took off, and I said to him, “You’re faster than people think, man.” That right there was my welcome to the NFL moment.

Sherman went on, “He may smile and laugh all the time, but underneath he’s strong, mean, and aggressive.”

Watch the entire interview to hear Brown discuss his big play versus Seattle, his first career interception, Brock Purdy, Steve Wilks, and Kyle Shanahan.
