Trent Williams, a left tackle for the 49ers, did not approach the discussion in his customary direct manner.

However, he also responded as if he were playing the game, covering quarterback Brock Purdy and creating space for running back Christian McCaffrey.

Williams did not want to be involved in any discussion on Purdy’s or McCaffrey’s greater merit for the NFL Most Valuable Player title.

Instead, he made the point that, with three games left in the regular season, it presents a wonderful conundrum for one team to have two quality possibilities.

Williams stated, “It means the offense is playing really well,” after the 49ers defeated the Arizona Cardinals 45–29 on Sunday.

On a day when the 49ers moved to 11-3 and won the NFC West for the second straight year, both players only made their arguments stronger.

With no interceptions, Purdy completed 16 of 25 throws for 242 yards and four touchdowns. His league-best passer rating of 119.0 was increased by him.

On the rush, McCaffrey amassed 115 yards and a touchdown; on five receptions, he added 72 yards and another score. He has scored 20 touchdowns this season in total. 1,292 of his 1,801 scrimmage yards came from running, while 509 came from receiving.

Williams remarked of McCaffrey, “We have the best running back in the NFL, so I think that’s his just due to get MVP consideration.”

Brock is the same. I’m really pleased of both of these guys because he’s been playing his ass off and for him to be in the conversation and to be a teammate.

Even though there are two guys who may make a strong case for being the best NFL player this season, Williams captured the overwhelming attitude in the locker room: the 49ers are focused on winning the ultimate team honor.

Williams remarked, “My job is to try and keep helping them succeed and who cares, as long as we can bring that trophy back to Santa Clara.” “That is the only thing on my mind.”
