Following Jacksonville’s 23-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, head coach Doug Pederson informed reporters that the quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars will go through concussion protocol after being evaluated.

Despite finishing the game, Jaguars star quarterback Lawrence appears to have suffered a concussion during a play in the fourth quarter, according to Pederson.

For Jacksonville, which has now lost three consecutive games, it’s a disappointing outcome. Depending on how Lawrence moves through the process, it might get worse.

In the event that he is unable to play against the Buccaneers on Christmas Eve, C.J. Beathard—a starter with a 2–10 record—would be the next in line.

In a prior prime-time contest, Beathard replaced Lawrence when the latter sustained a high ankle sprain during the Monday night loss against the Cincinnati Bengals on December 4, which started the current losing streak for the Jaguars. Although Lawrence’s injuries appeared much more serious at the time, he did not lose any time and has never missed a game in his career.

The third-year quarterback threw two interceptions: one on a scramble into the red zone even though he was unguarded, and again on a sack with the score tied at two touchdowns midway through the fourth quarter for Baltimore.

Towards the conclusion of the first half, he made a puzzling clock-management choice when he chose to go for a short pass from the Ravens’ 5-yard line rather than spike the ball. Parker Washington, the rookie wide receiver, was targeted by his pass, but he was unable to find the end zone or the sideline, giving Washington time to run out.

In any case, Lawrence continues to be Jacksonville’s most potent weapon and greatest chance of winning the AFC South twice in a row for the first time since the 1998–1999 campaign.

With the loss, Jacksonville’s record fell to 8-6, level with the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts atop the division.
