Star tight end George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers thinks quarterback Brock Purdy should lose to running back Christian McCaffrey for the Most Valuable Player Award, but Kittle does not consider Purdy to be just a “game manager.”

Kittle mockingly remarked, “There’s no one that manages the game quite like him,” about Purdy during an interview on “The Rich Eisen Show,” according to information given by 49ers WebZone’s David Bonilla. Isn’t that crazy? All they want to do is think of something to say today that will cause someone to dispute with them. Additionally, 49ers supporters like arguing with anyone who disparages any of their players or the team as a whole.”

Purdy was defended against criticism by a number of 49ers teammates and experts both before and after former NFL MVP Cam Newton controversially referred to the final choice of the 2022 draft as a “game manager” as opposed to a “game-changer.” It’s often believed—fairly or unjustly—that Purdy is lucky to play with elite players like McCaffrey, Kittle, Trent Williams, Deebo Samuel, and offensive tackle Kittle.

Kittle disagrees and doesn’t seem to care that Purdy doesn’t produce highlight-reel plays the way starting quarterback Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs do.

“I mean, he’s playing at such a high level right now, and the consistency of it, too. It’s hard to go out there and play football consistently, 24/7.” Purdy leads the NFL with a 76.0 adjusted QBR, a 119.0 passer rating, 29 touchdown passes, and an average of 9.9 yards per pass attempt. He’s also second with 3,795 passing yards and a 69.8% completion percentage, according to ESPN stats. Kittle continued, “He’s playing the quarterback position at an incredibly high level,”

Oddschecker’s MVP Award odds for Purdy as of late Tuesday morning saw him as the betting favorite at -200/-225. On Christmas night, he and the 11-3 49ers play the 11-3 Ravens.
