bringing in a defensive tackle on a week when Arik Armstead and Javon Hargrave are probably doubtful once again

When 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addresses the media on Thursday afternoon, we will receive our first injury report of the week. The regular schedule gets moved forward one day because the 49ers don’t play until Monday.

Whether Arik Armstead or Javon Hargrave returns to practice will be clearer to us. Given that defensive tackle Kalia Davis exited the locker room in a walking boot and suffered a severe ankle sprain, we know the 49ers will be without Davis for the duration of the regular season.

According to Taylor Stallworth’s agent, Brett Tessler, the 49ers are adding him to the practice squad because they see the need for depth at defensive tackle. The Tennessee Titans’ sixth-year veteran, Stallworth, just returned from injured reserve.

This season, Stallworth made one appearance for the Titans. That coincidentally occurred in Week 6 against the Baltimore Ravens. Since being an undrafted free agency in 2018, the 6’2, 305-pound defensive tackle has been a member of the Titans, Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, Indianapolis Colts, and New Orleans Saints.

After T.Y. McGill and Spencer Waege, Stallworth is the third defensive tackle on the Niners practice squad.
