Taylor Stallworth, a standout player from Murphy High School, signed with the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday to join their practice squad, marking his comeback to the NFL.

After beginning the 2023 NFL season with the team that presently has the poorest record in the NFC, Stallworth is now on the team with the best record in the conference, the 49ers.

After starting defensive tackles Arik Armstead and Javon Hargrave without participating on Sunday and leaving defensive tackle Kalia Davis on injured reserve on Tuesday, San Francisco signed Stallworth.

Armstead, who has problems to his knee and feet, and Hargrave, who has a hamstring issue, did not practice on Thursday.

Regarding Stallworth’s addition, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said, “I’m not really familiar.” “Yesterday, we worked out a number of guys.” I am aware that our boys adored him during the workout and from what they had previously seen of him. We had to include him in our practice team due to our lack of players; we’ll see how he performs this week.

Stallworth joined the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad at the start of his sixth NFL season. Stallworth, who was cut by the Panthers on September 11, became a member of the Houston Texans practice squad on October 4. On October 9, after being released by the Texans three days later, he signed with the practice squad of the Tennessee Titans. After suffering an injury during his lone 2023 game, Stallworth was placed on injured reserve. On Nov. 14, the Titans activated Stallworth’s inactive roster.

As an undrafted rookie from South Carolina, Stallworth joined the NFL in 2018 and has since played in 58 regular-season and four postseason games for five different clubs.

The NFL transactions report for Thursday included the waiver of former Alabama standout Malik Reed, who was a standout player at Dothan High School, by the Las Vegas Raiders.

In order to make room on the roster for nine-year NFL veteran center Hroniss Grasu, Las Vegas waived Reed.

Following his release by the Miami Dolphins at the conclusion of the preseason, Reed signed to the Raiders practice squad on September 27 and was later added to the active roster.

With two starts, the pass-rusher participated in four games for Las Vegas. 26 special teams plays and 63 defensive snaps were played with him on the field.

2019 saw Reed join the Denver Broncs as an undrafted rookie out of Nevada. Over the course of the previous four seasons, Reed participated in 63 games as an outside linebacker with 48 starts and 16 sacks—three with the Denver Broncos and one with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
