Tyron Smith, a left lineman for the Dallas Cowboys, is expected to miss the team’s Week 16 trip to Miami due to a back issue, according to reports on Saturday. Although the team is not going with him this weekend, there is hope that he will be back the following Saturday when Dallas plays the Detroit Lions. Smith will not start; Chuma Edoga will.

Smith will have missed four games in 2023 with this one. Earlier in the season, with the Patriots victory and the Arizona loss, he missed two weeks of play. He did not play in the Rams’ victory in Week 8. Although he has missed three or more games in every season since 2016, this year has been the healthiest for him since 2020.

Edoga, who has occasionally filled in for Tyler Smith and Tyron, will make his sixth start of the year. With only a loss to the Cardinals, Dallas has managed to go 5-1 in those contests.

Tyron Smith was hurt during last Sunday’s Dallas loss to the Buffalo Bills. Since he wasn’t officially declared out until this past Saturday, there’s a decent chance he’ll be back next week. The Cowboys’ postseason standing is more dependent on their next games against the Lions and Commanders as it is on any win they get the rest of the road.

Based on the current NFC rankings, Dallas is expected to finish no lower than the fifth seed and has already secured a postseason berth. Even so, they will be without their seasoned left tackle when facing a strong Miami pass rush.
