Throughout the remainder of the 2023 NFL season, the Washington Commanders were prepared to take a different turn. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett will start in Week 17 against the San Francisco 49ers, it was revealed earlier this week. That announcement, meanwhile, might be in risk if today’s practice takes a turn for the worse.

Jacoby Brissett Suffers Hamstring Injury

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that Brissett hurt his hamstring during practice earlier today. Brissett’s status for Sunday’s game against the 49ers is now uncertain as a result. If this hamstring injury becomes severe enough, the Commanders may need to take a different approach given the nature of the injury.

Washington Commanders Moving Forward

Should Brissett’s injuries prevent him from playing, Washington might be forced to return to Sam Howell. He has spent the most of the 2023 NFL season as the starting quarterback. But in Week 16 against the New York Jets, he was benched. Furthermore, Howell was not supposed to start in Week 17.

The Commanders currently have a 4-11 record. They have a top-four pick in the 2024 NFL Draft right now. There is some conjecture that Washington may select another quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft class given the abundance of gifted quarterback prospects in that class. But Howell might have one more opportunity to demonstrate that, over the long haul, he is a capable quarterback
