In the midst of the controversy surrounding Brad Allen, a number of fans and media figures have not refrained from bringing up the referee’s past of controversial rulings and non-called, or at least errors in refereeing.

In response to the controversy, ESPN’s Adam Schefter published a piece from early December in which he described how Allen’s officiating crew was “under scrutiny” for failing to call a “blatant and potentially game-deciding pass interference penalty” during the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Green Bay Packers match.

To make matters worse, Schefter detailed in the same piece how Allen’s team failed to stop a defensive pass interference call in a game in November.

In his article, Schefter stated, “The officials who officiated the Packers-Chiefs game, under the direction of referee Brad Allen, also handled the Saints-Falcons game on Nov. 26 in Atlanta, where there was another contentious missed defensive pass interference call.”

In addition to that, Schefter posted a video on X, formerly Twitter, demonstrating how Brad Allen’s erroneous decision on a roughing penalty cost the Chicago Bears a field goal.

NFL officials are assessed “on every play of every game,” as Schefter stated in his previous piece. It appears that the evaluation results have a “major role in determining which officials will officiate in the playoffs and how to help the officials improve their performance.”

Fans can only presume that, in light of everything that has transpired thus far, Brad Allen and his team will receive additional feedback regarding their performance from the NFL.

It will be fascinating to hear what the NFL has to say about the referees’ performance and the Detroit Lions’ loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
