Running back Christian McCaffrey is one man who stands to gain a lot from the San Francisco 49ers securing the NFC’s top seed and home-field advantage in the playoffs. In addition to being the Niners offense’s workhorse this season and setting records, the star player left Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders due to a calf injury.

“There may be a calf strain. But we’ll have to wait and see tomorrow,” head coach Kyle Shanahan stated at the news conference following the game.

It doesn’t seem likely that McCaffrey will play in the 49ers’ championship game against the Los Angeles Rams now that the team has won the top seed.

Shanahan continued, “We think he’ll be all right.” We’ll have to find out more tomorrow, but I’m not sure if he would have been able to go next week. We’re hoping it’s not too serious because he was moving about on the sidelines without any problems, but we won’t know until tomorrow.”

McCaffrey stretched on the sidelines, then picked up his helmet and proceeded to move around normally, as if he was hoping to get back into the game. The running back has no doubt in his mind that he would have returned to the game if it had been a playoff game.

“I will always play if I can,” McCaffrey declared at FedEx Field’s visitor’s locker room. “I believe it was a simple and wise decision, especially considering that I had no idea what would occur the following week. I didn’t want to enter and exacerbate the situation.”

McCaffrey is hopeful that the injury is not too serious, although he is unsure of exactly when it happened.

“I’m not sure what happened,” McCaffrey remarked. It was not really serious. I was just pushing off because I was having some difficulty and decided it would be best to take a break out of it out of prudence.”

Fortunately, with the Arizona Cardinals defeating the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field, McCaffrey will have plenty of time to heal.

“It implies everything,” McCaffrey remarked. “Therefore, congrats to the Cardinals. Thank you so much, everyone. That was very significant. We all need it, I believe. I’m aware that I require it. Therefore, I can’t wait to simply relax and return to normal.”
