During Sunday’s 26-0 victory over the Carolina Panthers, wide receiver Jamal Agnew broke his lower left leg, requiring him to miss the remainder of the season.
Agnew, the outstanding wide receiver and returner for the Jacksonville Jaguars, is out for the remainder of the season after making three appearances back.
Agnew sustained the injury after the Jaguars’ victory over the Panthers on Sunday. It was the biggest play of the day for the offense, a 48-yard reception.
The Jaguars’ third-largest play in the last three weeks was the standout returner’s 48-yard reception on Sunday; the longest was his 65-yard touchdown catch against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 15.
The wide receiver may end up starting quarterback for the Jaguars in Week 18, but he won’t be involved in their attempt to win the AFC South. Christian Kirk, a receiver, returned from injured reserve on Wednesday, and he has a 21-day practice window. This means he may play as soon as Sunday.
Agnew is out of commission for Week 18 and any potential postseason games for the Jaguars due to an injury, head coach Doug Pederson announced to reporters on Monday.
Press Taylor, the offensive coordinator for the Jaguars, stated earlier this year to emphasize the importance of his presence in the lineup:
He is undoubtedly a dynamic ball carrier. He has occasionally performed it for us in his two years here as a ball carrier for our offense, as we have all witnessed as a punt returner.
During the previous three games, Agnew had contributed offensively in Kirk’s absence. He had averaged 24.6 yards on eight kickoff returns and had caught five catches for 135 yards and a touchdown.
