The Vikings must first defeat the Detroit Lions this weekend while playing on the road.

All hope is not lost for the Vikings.

The Vikings still had a 3% chance of making the playoffs, despite appearing very much like a team that has waved the white flag following a 33-10 home loss to the Green Bay Packers on New Year’s Eve, according to the New York Times simulator.

It begins on Sunday when they travel to Detroit to play the Lions in the last regular season game. Given that the Vikings suffered a 30-24 home loss to the Lions two weeks prior, that is by no means a given.

However, in order for the Vikings to advance, they would need to defeat the Green Bay Packers, the Arizona Cardinals, the New Orleans Saints, and either the Carolina Panthers or the Atlanta Falcons, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Chicago Bears.

In Vegas, that would be an incredible parlay. especially since any team in that circumstance that needs to win is an underdog

What exactly would the payout be? Here’s a breakdown:

A person would win a whopping $297.42 if they wagered $10 on a parlay that had the Vikings, Bears, Cardinals, and Falcons winning their individual games.

An even more impressive $377.50 would be won if a $10 parlay that included the Vikings, Bears, Cardinals, and Panthers winning their individual games came in.

If a $10 parlay was placed and the Vikings, Bears, Cardinals, Falcons, and Panthers all won their respective games, the winner would receive an incredible $912.26.

What aspect of parlays irritates you the most? It is rare for all the legs to strike at the same time. Sports gamblers have innumerable terrifying tales of a parlay going south right before the big game.

That explains why the Vikings are currently viewed as such a long shot to make the playoffs by the New York Times model. There is, at most, a very slim chance that every single outcome will go their way this weekend. There isn’t even a small space for error.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell of the Vikings stated, “We still do have a chance at the postseason,” but he also acknowledged that the team wanted to get over their embarrassing loss to the Packers the previous week. “I think our guys will be prepared to return to work this week.”

It is going to require the Vikings to put up a strong effort. The Lions are incredibly motivated after a contentious call cost them in a 20-19 loss to the Dallas Cowboys last weekend. They are not only still in the running for the No. 2 spot and will start their starters on Sunday.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell declared, “I’m ready to go. I’ve got controlled fury.” It’s our mission. We refuse to wallow in our own misery. This will serve as fuel for us.

That might be difficult for the Vikings and anyone who is betting on them to win the pennant.
