With a decisive victory over the Washington Commanders on Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys secured the NFC East title. For the third year in a row, head pp coach Mike McCarthy will guide his team to the postseason. However, there have recently been worries regarding his job security. Additionally, on Sunday, owner Jerry Jones addressed these rumors.

McCarthy’s future with the Cowboys is reportedly dependent on how successful they are in the postseason. Jones discussed the team’s past with the media regarding his seasoned head coach. According to The Athletic’s Jon Machota, the Cowboys owner stated, “I think that speaks for itself, considering what he’s done and that we’ve put ourselves in this position over the last three years.”

Jones continued by admitting that Dallas still had football to play. McCarthy also plays a significant role in positioning the squad to challenge for a Super Bowl. According to Machota, the Cowboys owner went on, “We’ll see how each game goes.”

Cowboys playoff history under Mike McCarthy

The Cowboys had a 12-5 record in 2021 and qualified for the playoffs after finishing 6-10 in 2020. That year, Dallas played the 49ers of San Francisco in the NFC Wild Card Round. But they were defeated, falling short 23–17.

The Cowboys finished 12-5 in 2022 as well, however they were not the division winners. In the Wild Card Round, Dallas triumphed handily over Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Nevertheless, they were defeated by the 49ers once more in the Divisional Round.

Dallas will play a team that Mike McCarthy is well-acquainted with this season. The Green Bay Packers, led by Jordan Love, visit the city after securing a playoff berth in Week 18. McCarthy coached the Packers for thirteen years in Green Bay. With them, he also took home a Super Bowl victory in 2010.

McCarthy is attempting to win a Super Bowl for the third time in his fourth season with the Cowboys. It will be intriguing to watch how Dallas does in the postseason and how their results may affect their seasoned head coach’s career.
