Jaguars’ Doug Pederson gets brutally honest on Titans loss as playoff dreams turn into nightmares in a 28-20 loss

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ 8-3 start to the season collapsed into a 9-8 result and a postseason ban. Head coach Doug Pederson was unable to dispute the state of his club after they blew their final opportunity to make the playoffs.

According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, Pederson told reporters following his team’s 28–20 loss to the Tennessee Titans, “I think today’s game is our season in a nutshell.” The Jaguars would have won the AFC South for a second time with a victory in Week 18. Rather, their season came to an abrupt end on Sunday.

Pederson especially mentioned Jacksonville’s self-inflicted problems, missed tackles on defense, and offensive turnovers as examples of their team’s play throughout the last month and a half of the season.

Over the past six weeks, Jacksonville—which had a terrible December and completely disappeared from the AFC playoff picture—saw all of their circumstances change. With a more than 98 percent likelihood of making the playoffs, the squad went into the last stretch of play.

On December 4, the Jacksonville Jaguars suffered a high ankle sprain in an overtime thriller against the Cincinnati Bengals, who were missing quarterback Joe Burrow. The following three games would be losses for the Jaguars.
