Dual-purpose offensive tool When the San Francisco 49ers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV in 2019, Deebo Samuel was a rookie. He contrasted the San Francisco team with the 12-5 Niners, who secured the top seed in the next postseason competition.

According to David Bonilla of 49ers WebZone, Samuel stated, “I feel like as a team, as a player, I feel like we are better,” during an appearance on FanDuel TV’s “Up & Adams” program on Tuesday. “We have developed. We have experienced what it’s like to lose and then, following the game, sort of get the top seed. And I’m simply chatting to the guys who were here in 2019 in the locker room. “Bro, aside from the fact that we had to tackle the guy on the inch-yard line, this feels kind of exactly the same,” I remarked.

Samuel was specifically referring to how, back in December 2019, San Francisco required a crucial defensive stop to secure home-field advantage throughout the conference playoffs:

With an average of 398.4 offensive yards per game, the 2023 49ers stand second in the NFL going into the postseason, according to ESPN figures. In terms of total defense (33.9 yards given up per game), San Francisco is ranked sixth.

The 49ers were the favorites at +220 odds to win Super Bowl LVIII and the NFC’s -125 odds to represent the conference as of Tuesday afternoon, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. Achieving this would be a wonderful present for Samuel, who turns 28 on Monday.

“I just want to win game by game and just be in the middle of February holding that trophy up,” Samuel stated on Tuesday. “That’s the only birthday wish I got right now.”

Whatever the 49ers achieved in the regular season, many will consider the campaign a failure if Samuel’s wish is not granted.
