Sean McVay discusses Jared Goff in the run-up to the thrilling Wild Card game

One of the main stories as the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams prepare for their Wild Card playoff matchup is that of the quarterbacks, Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff. In a pivotal postseason game, Goff—who was traded to the Lions in exchange for Stafford, who was moved to the Rams—will take on his former team. An intriguing wrinkle to this highly anticipated matchup is the observations made by Sean McVay, Goff’s former head coach with the Rams, on Goff’s growth and current form.

Goff’s Evolution Under Scrutiny

During his most recent media session, Sean McVay highlighted Jared Goff’s tremendous development since moving to Detroit. After working with Goff for four years at the Rams, McVay said that Goff’s maturity and confidence have clearly increased. He emphasized Goff’s command of the offensive scheme of the Lions and his capacity to manage duties at the line of scrimmage, including audibles.

Throughout his four years with us, he performed at a very high caliber. “He’s just continuing to mature, just like anybody else,” the Rams head coach said of Goff during his Monday media session. It’s evident that he takes tremendous pride in their work. Being able to enter and exit the various packages at the line of scrimmage is a big duty for him. As you can see, he’s given a lot of freedom when it comes to some of the audibles by Ben (Johnson) and Dan (Campbell). However, he’s just a confident quarterback on the field.

Thus, he has shown excellent ownership and all the qualities you look for in a quarterback. And I’ve been watching because I love this game and I’ve been quite impressed, in addition to obviously viewing it from a different perspective. Seeing their offense, it appears that we have crossed paths with the Lions rather frequently, and it has been among the greatest. He’s also setting the example.

In addition to acknowledging Goff’s development as a quarterback, McVay expressed admiration for the trip his former player has made since their paths parted.

The Final Verdict: Goff’s Proof Moment

Jared Goff’s journey completes a circle as the Lions get ready to take on the Rams in the Wild Card game. The fact that McVay recognized Goff’s leadership and maturity emphasizes how crucial this game is for Goff. It’s more important for him to establish his value as an elite NFL quarterback than it is to settle past scores. This is Goff’s chance to show off his development and guide the Lions in a crucial game that has the potential to change his career. This is more than just a game for Goff; it’s an opportunity to show that his time with the Lions has been one of growth and success.
