The former defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons is descended from Pete Carroll.

Reports state that the Jacksonville Jaguars have requested a meeting with Marquand Manuel, the former defensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons.

Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report was the first to report that the Jaguars are interested in speaking with the safety coach of the New York Jets.

After firing Mike Caldwell as defensive coordinator on Monday night, the Jaguars are now searching for a new coordinator. Just three of Pederson’s eleven defensive staff members remain after the Jaguars fired seven additional defensive assistants.

After the 2023 season, the Jaguars were ranked No. 17 in terms of points scored, No. 22 in terms of yards per game, No. 13 in terms of EPA/Play allowed, and No. 12 in terms of Success Rate allowed.

Manuel, an eight-year veteran, has long been a mainstay in Pete Caroll’s coaching staff, which raises the possibility that his hiring may usher in a return to Jacksonville’s previous defensive philosophy.

In 2012, Manuel started his coaching career with the Seattle Seahawks as an assistant special teams coach. In 2013, the Seahawks promoted Manuel a defensive assistant before becoming assistant secondary coach in 2014

After that, Manuel moved to Seattle in 2015 to work as defensive backs coach for former Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn. In 2016, Manuel interviewed for the vacant coordinator post with the Jaguars.

After receiving a promotion in 2017, Manuel worked for two years as the defensive coordinator. In 2020, he became the defensive backs coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, working under Doug Pederson. Manuel has worked as a safeties coach with Robert Saleh’s team in New York since 2021.
