The Kansas City Chiefs will once again face the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional round. We’ve seen this scenario play out before, but it never gets boring. Whenever Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes meets Bills star Josh Allen, it’s always an explosive matchup.

In an interview with reporters on Jan. 17, Mahomes, who has been friends with Allen for years, acknowledged that Bill’s hitting got personal. “When you’re competing with your friends, you want to win even more,” Mahomes said.

“Josh is a great guy. I respect the way he plays football and the person he is. But when two very competitive people and friends play against each other off the field, obviously we both want to win. When we meet in the offseason, I want to brag about something.

Mahomes is playing his first playoff game against Buffalo. This Chiefs-Bills matchup will be the first time they play in front of a large crowd at Highmark. The 28-year-old’s only road game against the Bills came in 2020, when fans were not allowed to attend.

“This is it,” Mahomes said on the drive. “Obviously I’ve been fortunate enough to play a lot of home games at Arrowhead. … Even though I know it’s going to be hostile and people are going to talk trash, I’m excited about it.” Playing in Orchard Park surrounded by a Bills crowd: “It’s one of the best environments in football.

“With the Bills having won seven straight and enjoying home-field advantage, the Chiefs are considered a 2.5-point underdog. Nothing changes for Mahomes. “I go into every game with the same mindset: go out and win… that never changes.
