Even after the Dallas Cowboys’ sad third-straight postseason exit, Mike McCarthy will remain their head coach officially till 2024. Leading the Cowboys for the fifth season, veteran McCarthy has no contract that extends past the following year.

For the last three seasons, McCarthy has guided Dallas to a 12–5 record, but Cowboys supporters are hoping for more. McCarthy outlined his qualifications for the position to the media in his first interview since the news broke.

McCarthy remarked, “We have a championship program in place; it’s just not the world championship yet.” “We have the right people, we know how to train to win, and we know how to win, but we haven’t gone above and beyond to win playoff games.”

Well, Stephen A. Smith thought that response was inadequate. The ESPN pundit lost it on First Take when he heard McCarthy refer to the Cowboys as a “championship program.”

“Pardon me… Are you saying that titles can be won without winning postseason games, or did I miss something? stated Smith. “That is the silliest quote I have heard in a long time!”

Smith’s criticism of McCarthy didn’t stop there. The celebrity also questioned McCarthy’s failure to win with the Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers despite having two outstanding quarterbacks.

He said, “You’ve had Dak Prescott, Aaron Rodgers, and Brett Favre, and all you have to show for it is one championship in seventeen years!” “You are 1-3 in the postseason since moving to Dallas four years ago, and just days after a humiliation, you’re going to sit up there and tell the world, ‘We have a championship program!'”

McCarthy has 167 regular season wins in his 17 years as head coach, but he has only 11 postseason victories (with a.500 record). Dallas is still giving McCarthy another opportunity to lead the team to a title in spite of Smith’s criticism.
