Prior to starting as the 49ers’ coach in 2022, Griese was an NFL quarterback and worked for ESPN. That same year, Purdy was selected with the 49ers’ penultimate pick in the draft. However, he went on to establish himself as a starter and MVP contender when injuries to Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance, the team’s past quarterbacks, occurred.
