Christian McCaffrey scored the go-ahead goal to help San Francisco rally in the fourth quarter.

Of course there is inherent flexibility in how representations are distributed. Even if a run is next on the list, the 49ers can use one of their passes if the yardage situation calls for it – or vice versa.

But the bottom line is that there are eight plays, tailored to the opponent on that particular play, that the 49ers would like to get out of the locker room. One of those plays in Saturday’s thrilling 24-21 divisional round win over the Green Bay Packers was a running return called “18 Mike.”It’s one of Christian McCaffrey’s favorite calls.

So when the star running back saw Mike on the scoreboard leaving the locker room at halftime, he smiled.“He told me he was going to score on that play,” Shanahan said.
