San Francisco takes on the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship Game at 3:30 p.m. PT Sunday at Levi’s Stadium. 
The Lions weren’t just bad, they were historically bad. The first NFL team to go 0-16 in 2008 and one of only five teams in league history to have a winless season.
The Lions, who have existed for more than 90 years, have never played there. The only other team that doesn’t is the Jacksonville Jaguars.which did not exist at all until 1995; and the Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns, who are also near-expansion teams.Â
The Lions also had two of the best players the game has ever seen, Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson, and both left because of broken hearts. OK, that wasn’t the official reason. But he might as well have walked away knowing the Lions wouldn’t leave. 
Soon I would be going somewhere and there was no point in staying here any longer.
