With Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris, their focus now appears to have shifted to finding their next defensive coordinator.

Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Sean Desai is the latest candidate to interview for the same position with the Falcons, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Desai, 40, spent just one season with the Eagles, replacing Jonathan Gannon, who left last season to become head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. But to say this season has been difficult for Desai would be an understatement. The Eagles defense, which lost key players from last season, has gotten worse this season.

But it was easy to forgive the defensive lapses as Philadelphia lost 10-1. But the lows began to fall after the Eagles suffered back-to-back losses to the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles then stripped Desai of his play-calling duties and named assistant Matt Patricia as the de facto defensive coordinator.

The decision was predictably long overdue as Philadelphia continued its upward trajectory and was eventually eliminated in the Wild Card round.Overall, the Eagles defense ranked 30th in points allowed and 26th in yards allowed, both areas down sharply from the year before.

Both Desai and Patricia were fired after the season, but only the former expressed interest in a new job. In addition to his interview with the Falcons, Desai is in talks to become the Buffalo Bills’ starting defensive coordinator.

Before coming to Philadelphia, Desai was the head coach and defensive assistant for the Seattle Seahawks in 2022 and the defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears in 2021.
