San Francisco 49ers quarterback Dre Greenlaw had one of his biggest games this season, but he could be on his way to another team in 2024.

Bleacher Report gave the 49ers Greenlaw and the team’s first-round pick for Denver Broncos All-Pro quarterback Patrick Surtain II this offseason. Greenlaw’s salary is $9.63 million, and he could be considered for a trade next season as he enters the final year of a two-year, $16.4 million contract.

“Trading him would save $6.8 million,” Bleacher Report wrote of Greenlaw. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 49ers attempted to pry Surtain away from the Broncos before the trade deadline. Reexamining this idea could be a good move for San Francisco.”

“surtian is entering the fourth year of his rookie contract and won’t take up a lot of cap space until 2024,” the Bleacher Report staff said. “He’s also one of the best young cornerbacks in football. Last season, he allowed 88.2 per opponent.

For the 49ers, Surtain adds a secondary that could improve. As for Greenlaw, he had a strong regular season with 120 tackles and 1.5 sacks, but his biggest game came with an interception to help the Green Bay Packers win the divisional round.

Landing Surtain leads 49ers cornerbacks with seven interceptions in his first three years as a pro. He had 58 or more tackles in each of those seasons.

“Surtain is worth a late first-round pick and is a good fit on Charvarius Ward’s sideline,” the Bleacher Report staff wrote. “Denver is getting a premium pick that they can use to advance a rookie quarterback and a fantastic quarterback to bolster their 29th-ranked defense.”

That deal won’t solve the 49ers’ $1.36 million salary cap issue through 2024, as Surtain is asking for more money. He will make $3.51 million in 2024, the final year of his four-year, $20.96 million contract.
