Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys, is fully committed to his team until 2024.

For a sixth season, the 81-year-old billionaire will continue working with coach Mike McCarthy.

From 2020, the Cowboys’ postseason record is 1-3. McCarthy joined the team in that season.

Jerry Jones, who used a basketball analogy to express his satisfaction with his team’s current situation on Tuesday, has backed the Dallas Cowboys to end their playoff curse the next season.

Following their third straight 12-win season, the Cowboys were humiliated to lose to the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round of the playoffs. Furthermore, Dallas had won the NFC East heading into the postseason.

After the unexpected first-round loss, Jones made the decision to remain with head coach Mike McCarthy for a fourth season, even though McCarthy had a 1-3 playoff record in the previous four years.

According to Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News, the 81-year-old millionaire discussed his latest personnel decision and the goals for the upcoming season with reporters during the Reese’s Senior Bowl: “What I would say is that, hopefully, things won’t change before our first playoff game as the second seed.” Hopefully, nothing has changed since we received the second seed.

Let’s now discuss how we could improve it if we participate in that game and win, alright? To be more precise, we need to run better, be more physically fit, and better end the run. It’s those kinds of things that we must do.

However, I appreciate that he is hanging around near the rim and the work the club has put into doing so. Thus, I believe my response would be that I am aware that we are hanging out near the edge.

“We’re not getting the ball in, but when you hang around the rim—let’s not undervalue that—where we are right now with the players we have, I’m considering it from every angle,” the player said.

McCarthy coached the Packers for more than twelve seasons, winning a Super Bowl and attending three other NFC title games. For this reason, after observing Jason Garrett’s teams fall short of the divisional round for ten years, Jones hired him in 2020.

Dallas hasn’t advanced to the NFC championship game since winning the final one of its five Super Bowl championships in 1995.

Though that is anticipated to alter in the summer as the Cowboys consider a quarterbacks coach, McCarthy’s fourth season as head coach of Dallas was his first as quarterback Dak Prescott’s play-caller.

Despite leading the NFL with 36 touchdown passes and a career-high completion percentage of 69.5 percent, Prescott’s postseason performance was inconsistent. Prescott’s postseason record is 2–5.

McCarthy will coach the 2024 season on an expired contract and is not anticipated to receive any kind of extension with the Cowboys, sources told ESPN earlier in January.
