The Buffalo Bills are replacing their defensive coordinator after just one season under Sean McDermott and are looking to hire their coach of the future.

The team announced on Jan. 30 that linebackers coach Bobby Babich will be promoted to defensive coordinator. Babic is considered a rising star among defensive coaches and is drawing interest from several teams with defensive coordinator hires, including multiple interviews with the Miami Dolphins.

This move allows the Bills to keep a versatile coach inside and take some of the burden off the head coach.

Bobby Babich excelled in a variety of roles.

Babich has experience in several position groups, starting as the Bills’ safeties coach and moving to linebacker after his father, Bob Babich, retired. He excelled in both roles, helped turn Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer into All-Pros, and led one of the best linebacking corps in the league this season behind Matt Milano and breakout star Terrell Bernard. The writer of NFL.com, Michael Baka, has become one of the League leadership in Babich’s hiring.

“The accounts are allowed at the NFL (15) and in 2020, and in 2020 they allowed to play the blocks completed first (15) and the seventh (15) and the seventh defense of the League and” meters “, said the reportMakersmott Leslie received the responsibilities of the defense coordinator after the sentence left. Despite injuries to several key players, including Milano, Tre’Davious White and defensive end DaQuan Jones, McDermott has kept this unit among the best in the league.

McDermott spoke highly of Babic and praised his performance during the team’s end-of-season press conference. “Bobby is a good coach. He developed players,” McDermott said, via The Athletic . “I think when you evaluate a coach, do you take what you have and make it better? It doesn’t have to be any more complicated than that, and Bobby did it.

“The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia reported that it is still unclear which manager will be in charge next season, but suggested that Babic will have full faith in McDermott.”

However, if McDermott is someone he can trust to run his defense as it is, Babic could be that person,” Buscaglia wrote. “McDermott knows his career well and the team and coaches believed in him when he was young. So there may be less doubt that he will have to walk away from the game.
