The Tennessee Titans appointed Nick Holz as their offensive coordinator a year after the Indianapolis Colts did the same with Jim Bob Cooter.

The Jaguars should look into replacing Holz as there is currently a vacancy on the coaching staff next to Press Taylor, who is about to embark on a make-or-break season

So which names would be a good fit to take Holz’s place? We examine the area below.

Frank Reich

This is the most apparent name that will spring to mind, but in order to avoid placing him entirely beneath Taylor in the hierarchy, it would make more sense to also designate him as assistant head coach. After their tenure together with the Eagles and their struggles in the AFC South in 2022, Reich and Pederson hold a great deal of respect for one another

Reich’s ability to manage a passing game and his collaboration with Nick Foles during the Eagles’ Super Bowl run should be sufficient reasons for this selection, even though there will undoubtedly be some opponents following his terrible time with the Panthers. Reich looks to be most suited as an assistant after losing two head coaching positions in the course of a year.

DeFilippo John

John DeFilippo, who is currently head coach of the UFL’s Memphis Showboats, might be able to make a comeback to the NFL by taking a job as a passing coordinator. His most recent coaching position was as the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for the Chicago Bears in 2021, where he spent two years working with Matt Nagy, another protégé of Andy Reid.

Before leaving to take on positions as offensive coordinator in Philadelphia, DeFilippo worked as the quarterbacks coach for two years under Pederson. As such, there is some familiarity between the two of them here, as well as between DeFilippo and Taylor, with whom any hire will have to collaborate closely.

Mike Groh

Mike Groh is another name with Pederson connections; the two worked together for three years in Philadelphia, and Pederson selected Groh to take over as offensive coordinator when Reich left to join the Colts. Following his dismissal by Pederson following the 2020 campaign, Groh worked as Reich’s receivers coach for the next two years until accepting a similar position with the Giants in 2022.

The Jaguars would gain an experienced coach who has already served as a coordinator under Pederson with this acquisition, even though it wouldn’t necessarily result in any novel ideas.

McCoy, Mike, and Andrew Breiner

How about a promotion from within? Both assistant quarterbacks coach Andrew Breiner and quarterbacks coach Mike McCoy would make a lot of sense if the Jaguars attempted to retain the hire in-house. Since they have been working with Trevor Lawrence for the past two years, the Jaguars are aware of how well each would get along with Taylor.

Breiner might win the promotion because the Jaguars might not want to upset Lawrence’s QB coach and jeopardize his progress. However, it would make for an intriguing dynamic to watch Breiner rise from McCoy’s assistant to practically above him in the hierarchy.

Parks Frazier

Frank Reich could write a better scouting report on this NFL coach than any other. Reich did, after all, essentially perform Parks Fraizer’s wedding. In 2018, Fraizer secured his initial NFL position as Reich’s assistant. He later advanced to the position of quality control coach in 2020, and assistant quarterbacks coach in 2021. After Reich was fired, he took over as Jeff Saturday’s acting play-caller in an interim capacity. In 2023, he accompanied Reich to Carolina to work as the Panthers’ passing game coordinator.

Given how poorly the Panthers’ passing game performed in 2023, this move is unlikely to generate much excitement; nonetheless, in the NFL, relationships are important. Reich’s support of Fraizer against Pederson would probably be very beneficial.
