Fans may expect prolonged success, as general manager Brad Holmes made quite plain in his news conference at the end of the season.

The third-year CEO made no bones about how he felt about how people saw Detroit’s season-long run for the NFC Championship. He sent out a heartfelt message to the supporters on Monday as part of along introduction.

Things will only get better. Alright, we’re only going to get better. I don’t want anyone to believe that this was a wonderful, one-time event akin to Cinderella. No, it’s true,” Holmes remarked. “This is precisely what was intended to occur. I know that during a season like this, it’s easy to feel that this was a one-shot, miraculous, lucky, cute narrative—a story I’m sick of hearing. However, I also recognize that, based on history, what’s happened in the past. None of that applied. Though simple to believe, that is untrue.

Holmes and Dan Campbell have added players to the club extremely selectively, highlighting that not every player on the market is a good match for the organization’s ethos.

Holmes and Dan Campbell have added players to the club extremely selectively, highlighting that not every player on the market is a good match for the organization’s ethos.

The general manager reaffirmed this point by outlining the reasons the Lions’ brass takes such great care when selecting new hires.

“Every decision Dan and I make is intended to support the project we are working on,” Holmes said. “All right? Every action we take—and believe me, every action we take and every action we do not take—is intended to support the work we have been doing. It is true. See, it’s all intended to normalize our actions.

When the Lions won two playoff games for the first time in team history, it shocked a lot of people. Those within the Allen Park team headquarters, however, were not feeling the same level of shock.

The division title season was a result of the organization’s standard being set, as has been Holmes’ ambition for the team.

As the Lions go forward to become a Super Bowl contender, they are extremely optimistic about the impending important offseason.

Here is a place we adore. This is the norm and should be taken for granted. We recently completed our third year, and we really enjoy the window that we’re in,” Holmes said. “We’ll follow our plan; we’re still building.” We’ll just keep working hard to get better every year—which, in my perspective, is what we’ve done—and stick with it.
