Calvin Johnson reveals he played under the influence of cannabis as Hall of Famer admits he was ‘barely hanging on’ during his final season

Retired Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson revealed that he played several games under the influence of cannabis during his final season in the NFL.

The Hall of Famer played just 135 games in nine seasons and retired at the age of 30 in 2015. Upon his retirement, Johnson alluded to the physical toll football had taken on him as the deciding factor to his exit.

On Thursday’s episode of RG3 and The Ones, Johnson told Robert Griffin III that he used cannabis to ease the pain before games in 2015. The revelation came after Griffin asked Johnson if he played any games ‘high

Yes, I have,” Johnson chuckled. “There were moments in my career, man, when I thought, ‘I’m not sure how I’m going to make it today. Let me clear my head.”

Johnson was given a spot on the Lions’ All-Time team after being selected for six Pro Bowls throughout his nine years of playing for the organization. In 2021, during his first year of eligibility, he was also inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Johnson, a seasoned supporter of cannabis research for medical purposes, launched a medical marijuana shop in Michigan in 2019. Also, he collaborated with Harvard University to investigate the impact of cannabis on CTE patients.

With 1,214 yards in 2015, Johnson set a record for the most in a player’s last NFL season. In his final season in the league, he recorded the second-most receptions with 88.

Johnson left the game early due to a combination of team troubles and physical strain, despite having a solid conclusion to his career.

They’re dominating the group. Johnson stated, “My body hurts,” in 2020. “I can’t move as freely as I used to.” I can’t dig like I used to, and I can’t get out. I simply don’t sense it.
