Lynch confident all sides will find ‘best solution’ on Aiyuk contract

At the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday, San Francisco’s front-office official gave an interview to Bay Area media outlets regarding the two teams’ current status in negotiating a long-term contract extension.

Lynch stated, “I think he’s our player, so we can and will have those conversations.” “Brandon plays football really well. He’s a native son. We like to give those folks prizes. We want Brandon to be around here because he has done everything in his ability to assist our team become the team that it has become.

On locker clean-out day, AIYUK appeared uncertain about his 49ers future in remarks to the media following the team’s loss in Super Bowl LVIII. The general manager feels that Aiyuk would prefer to stay in the Bay above all else and is sympathetic to what the wideout has been through.

“I believe that effective communication is the first step, and I have done that by informing Brandon,” Lynch stated on “49ers Talk.” “I feel a strong connection to that young man. We are really proud of him for having been drafted, and I know Brandon is too. We watch him grow and get better every day, and we admire the will with which he plays.

Aiyuk was selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft (No. 25 overall), and he is still bound by his contract through the 2024 season. Aiyuk has been getting better every season since joining the Bay, and in 2023 he recorded a career-high 1,342 receiving yards.

Lynch remarked, “He’s made so many huge plays.” “We would like to get out with this person. To make that a reality, we’ll put in a ton of effort. There are numerous ways to accomplish this; all we need to do is be considerate and communicate with Brandon and his delegates, which we will do. And together, we’ll identify the best course of action for all parties.

The announcement last week by the league that the NFL’s 2024 salary cap will increase by a record $30 million was a sort of assist for Lynch and the 49ers. Although it will provide the 49ers some financial flexibility, Lynch is constantly thinking ahead to the next chapter of his career.

As much as the team would like to, they will have to wait until after the 2024 season to award Brock Purdy for his contributions in getting the team to two NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl. Right now, getting to an understanding with Aiyuk is the first priority.

We have the utmost regard for Brandon,” Lynch remarked. He’s one of my favorite men in our building; I love the way he plays the game. He is an opponent. He is a fighter. The way his body can assume certain positions, he plays with such physicality and grace.

“And when it counts most, he has a knack for making plays.” Additionally, he was a great franchisee for us. Additionally, I believe we have a good history of extending the contracts of the players that are significant to us, and Brandon is a player we intend to retain around for a very long time.
