The jacksonville jaguars announced quarterback trevor lawrence as a free agent a year earlier in the 2024 offseason.

And despite an uneven 2023 season, this option seems to be still on the agenda. Jaguars general manager trent baalke said the early stages of extension negotiations have begun, speaking with nfl network’s cameron wolfe at the nfl scouting combine in indianapolis. “we’ve started discussions.

” And, as you all know, they are going to continue. And, again, none of this stuff happens overnight. “we work tirelessly together to get something done,” baalke said.

You want to keep good footballers.

That’s the purpose. You want to draft good football players, you want to keep them, and the more players we get that we bring into the system under our tutelage and can maintain and maintain in our system, the better we will be. Lawrence finished the season with 4,016 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, as well as seven fumbles.

Lawrence also missed his first career start as a result of four injuries, with lawrence reportedly limping to the end of the season. Lawrence was actually walking wounded for much of 2023 after making it through his first two seasons with no injury concerns.

Lawrence suffered four different injuries this season, including a knee injury in week 6, an ankle injury in week 13, a concussion in week 15, and finally a shoulder injury in week 16, causing him to miss his first-career start.

During the jaguars’ six-game stretch, which saw them go 1-5 and miss the playoffs, the injuries stacked up. Lawrence missed his first career start, which was then the jaguars’ only victory of the season. Lawrence had his 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 8th worst games of the season by total epa out of his 16 starts. “we have the right quarterback……. we have the right quarterback.

I’m excited for the future with trevor, he’s excited based on the conversations we’ve had since the season. I don’t get into the contract stuff, i leave it to trent [baalke] and the agents and stuff,” jaguars head coach doug pederson said on tuesday. “i just know that our guy is the right one, he has the right demeanor, he has the right leadership.”

As coaches, it’s now our job to make sure he takes the next step. This will be another big offseason for him and his growth.

He isn’t exactly where he wants to be or where we want him to be, but i’m really looking forward to another year with trevor.”
