The las vegas raiders haven’t agreed to use the franchise tag on running back josh jacobs, which could mean he’ll be able to test free agency if the two teams don’t reach an agreement on a long-term contract soon.

It seems that the team intends to give him a contract before free agency. There are plenty of teams with needs, but jacobs has to be one of them. In 2022, he led the nfl with 1,652 passing yards and is now just 26 years old.

He hasn’t had any serious injury problems. Although the raiders could certainly bring jacobs back, bleacher report’s kristopher knox says he will sign with the dallas cowboys for a three-year, $30 million deal.

“A dallas cowboys team may be able to lure jacobs into offering him a deal that the raiders would refuse to accept.”

In a february 28 article, knox described jacobs as the cowboys’ dual-threat, every-down playmaker who led to dallas’s struggles in 2023.

“and while dallas is struggling with a $3.2 million cap deficit, it has ways to fill up the gap quickly. Dak prescott and ceedee lamb’s extensions could lower their 2024 numbers, and releasing michael gallup with a post-june 1 designation would save $9.5 million in cap space. The raiders probably saw enough from zamir white late in 2023 to justify paying to keep jacobs.

“The cowboys have a need at running back because tony pollard is a free agent. Jacobs would certainly add a lot of juice to the dallas offense. If the raiders decide not to re-sign the running back, it is highly possible.

Josh Jacobs Among Top RBs in Free Agency

This offseason, there are a number of well-known running backs in free agency, including josh jacobs, saquon barkley, derrick henry, and others.

Although there are plenty of options for running backs who need assistance, two are missing out among the others.

Jacobs and barkley are the clear top-two options in free agency, according to a x post published by the athletic’s dianna russini on march 5. Jacobs seems to be being watched by teams, so the raiders will face competition if they want to re-sign him.

Las Vegas Raiders Want to Use Multiple Backs

The raiders could not bring josh jacobs back due to their plans at running back. Tom telesco, the general manager of the team, recently stated that he prefers to have multiple running backs rather than relying on one player.

In telesco’s press conference on february 27, “the way we’re going to play, and the way a lot of teams play,” is that you need more than one back. “i don’t really see a lead-back thing.”

You’ve got to have more than one. You need two; you need three. They all have different roles within the team. It’s impossible to put that all on one person in this game, but it makes sense to invest a lot of money on jacobs if the team wants to reduce his workload, but he’s good enough to potentially alter their plans.
