After allowing the sixth-most passing yards in the NFL in 2023, the Detroit Lions’ pass defense will address the position this offseason.

It doesn’t look like their 26-year-old cornerback will play for them in the upcoming campaign.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Jerry Jacobs, a restricted free agent, will not be tendered by Detroit.

A “right of first refusal” tender, worth $2.985 million over one year, might have been extended to Jacobs by Detroit.

Instead, Jacobs will be able to sign with any team as an unrestricted free agent.

Detroit signed Jerry Jacobs as an UDFA in 2021.

Jerry Jacobs, a free agent signed by the Detroit Lions in 2021, was not selected in the draft.

With 34 tackles, three for a loss, seven pass deflections, one forced fumble, and 39 targets for 288 yards, one touchdown, and a 90.5 passer rating in 2021, Jacobs played in 13 games and started nine of them. In Week 14, Jacobs sustained an ACL tear that ended his season.

15 games played, 12 starts; 55 tackles, 2 for a loss, 3 interceptions, 8 pass deflections; 52 receptions on 82 targets for 638 yards, 6 touchdowns, and a 96.5 passer rating; all of this was accomplished by Jacobs in 2022. He missed the remainder of the season due to a lower-body injury that occurred in Week 18.

Jacobs thanked Detroit via a poignant tweet for giving him a chance, even if he wasn’t tendered by the team.

“I will always be grateful to Detroit” I promise that by giving a young person from Atlanta, Georgia, the opportunity to compete on the biggest football field, you have given me a memory that I will never forget. I will always treasure the city you helped me become.

Always Appreciative, Jerry Jacobs.
