The Detroit Lions are still deciding on their current roster in front of March 13’s opening of free agency.

According to rumors, the team will not offer exclusive rights free agent Chase Lucas a contract. Lucas will so become a free agent.

Brad Holmes and the Lions selected Lucas in the seventh round out of Arizona State in 2022. He has been and has not been on the team’s active roster during his two professional seasons.

In his debut season, he was able to make the team and recorded three tackles. He was cut at training camp in 2023 but re-signed to the practice squad. After two players were placed on injured reserve in September and then waived again in December, Lucas was eventually added to the active roster.

He was added to the active roster again during the postseason after the Lions placed cornerback Jerry Jacobs on injured reserve.

Lucas participated in 12 games during the 2023 regular season, primarily as a special teams player.

In recent days, Detroit made a number of decisions regarding its cornerback room, choosing not to tender contracts to Lucas, Khalil Dorsey, and Jerry Jacobs in favor of signing Emmanuel Moseley back for a one-year term.
