Less than a month after the Super Bowl, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy married Jenna Brandt on March 9 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Since the afternoon service, pictures from their wedding at a Des Moines church have been circulating on social media. Since then, congratulations have flooded in from 49ers supporters.

Before Purdy transferred to Northern Iowa, they had already met as college students at Iowa State, where Purdy played football for the Cyclones and Brandt played volleyball for the Cyclones before moving on to the Panthers. As Purdy—dubbed Mr. Irrelevant—went on to the NFL as the last choice in the 2022 draft, the pair kept their relationship intact.

Purdy supported the 49ers when the chance arose in 2022, following injuries to former Niners quarterbacks Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, despite his low draft status. Before suffering an elbow injury that ended his season, Purdy went 5-0 and led the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game.

His growing notoriety brought greater attention to his personal life and his connection with Brandt following his comeback and his selection as the starting quarterback for the 2023 campaign. In July 2023, the pair became engaged, and while Purdy worked to lead the 49ers to a Super Bowl, Brandt planned the majority of the wedding.

Offensive lineman Nick Zakelj, Purdy’s former roommate, stole the show amid the scrutiny of his private life. Living off of a minimum NFL salary of $889,252, Purdy shared rent with Zakelj and drove a Toyota Sequoia while on the field.

Furthermore, Purdy and Brandt have made no secret of their Christian faith and made it obvious that they delayed moving in together after the wedding. Prior to the Super Bowl, Zakelj made a joke about having given Purdy an eviction notice before March.

Purdy intends to resume preparing for the 2024 season and another shot at the Super Bowl after their post-wedding preparations.

After the 49ers had a 10-0 lead, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes disrupted the party with six scoring drives, thus Purdy’s second season did not end wonderfully like a wedding day. Purdy, however, maintained perspective when he uploaded a photo to Instagram on March 4.

“Won together and lost together. Did it with my boys. Keep the Faith,” Purdy wrote.

Brandt chimed in with a heartfelt comment afterward.

“What a year. Love you my boy,” Brandt wrote.

Throughout the season, Purdy ran for 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns against 11 interceptions, making him a strong candidate for MVP. His completion percentage was 69.4%, and his quarterback rating was 113.0.

“This is Happening for a Reason,” says Brock Purdy

Purdy intends to use the Super Bowl loss as motivation, even though his team won’t be able to recover until fall.

Clearly, it’s a bad sensation, Purdy said to the press on February 13. However, I’m also making an effort to adopt the mindset that, “All right, this is happening for a reason, you know.” All of this is included in our testimonies and stories.

Purdy continued, “So, that’s kind of the hope I have for [it].” The season we had with the players in this locker room, this squad, and this organization is what I’m most thankful for. We made it to the Super Bowl, but we were unable to win in overtime.
