It didn’t take the Las Vegas Raiders long to undermine the Chicago Bears’ power in a possible trade for Justin Fields. When word leaked out that the Atlanta Falcons had reached an agreement to acquire Kirk Cousins, the Bears were already having a difficult day in the trading department.

The Chicago Bears and the Las Vegas Raiders were negotiating. The Athletic’s Vic Tafur and Dianna Russini report that the Bears have reopened talks about a potential deal for Fields.

It looked like excellent news for Chicago from the reports. But minutes after word leaked out about the Raiders’ negotiations with the Bears for Fields, they moved on the quarterback position.

Gardner Minshew was signed by the Raiders. The Raiders plan to sign journeyman quarterback Gardner Minshew to a two-year, $25 million contract, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

Minshew performed admirably in 2023. In 2023, Minshew performed admirably in his role as the Indianapolis Colts’ backup.

After Anthony Richardson suffered an injury early in the season, Minshew came dangerously close to leading the rebuilding Colts into the playoffs in a fierce AFC. Passing for 3305 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions, Minshew completed 305 of 490 passes.

Minshew’s stats were sufficient to secure a spot in his first Pro Bowl. Because of his performance, Minshew is expected to replace current quarterback Aidan O’Connell as the Raiders’ starting quarterback this autumn.

It’s also anticipated that the Raiders would try to select a quarterback in the first round. After the Minshew trade, the Bears won’t be able to convince the Raiders to give up a high pick for Fields.
