Some Detroit Lions fans take issue with some of the intriguing remarks made by Carlton Davis about the team’s fan base.
The Buccaneers selected Carlton Davis in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He worked in Tampa his entire career. In Tampa, he was the Super Bowl victor.
However, it came as no great surprise when Bucs general manager Jason Licht made the decision to sell Davis to the Detroit Lions for a late third-round selection in return for two sixth-round picks, one this year and one next.
Davis signed a three-year, $44.5 million contract in 2022, and he will soon be entering the final year of it. The transaction reduces the salary ceiling by about $6.3 million.
Although it’s never easy to watch a gifted, dedicated, and high-caliber player go, this trade benefits both sides. Even though Davis is coming off of his worst season in a while and has struggled to stay on the field in Tampa Bay, when healthy, he still makes a very good starting cornerback. Undoubtedly, Davis performs best when he plays press man coverage—a role Todd Bowles’ scheme did not provide him much of. After this season, the Buccaneers were not expected to keep Davis around, so it is best for the organization to let him go now and free up some draft cash.
The Lions desperately needed more players in their secondary, particularly at cornerback. A dependable experienced cornerback who can match up with the opposition’s top receiver if necessary is a crucial addition to the Lions’ roster as they work to put together a squad that can compete for a Super Bowl.
He was first questioned over his early feelings after being traded from Tampa.
“It was only unexpected. Being a native Floridian who had lived there for six years, receiving the call was unexpected. It is, and always has been. That’s a reasonable reaction. However, after discussing it with my family and learning about the circumstances, my destination, and the opportunity that lies ahead, it gave me a lot of excitement and hope to come here. Detroit also has a sizable market and a devoted following, which I’m really excited to explore and be a part of. You guys make a fantastic team. I was horrified to learn about the trade, but there were only two parties involved. a side that was just startled and one that was excited.”
Next, Davis was asked to share his memories of this past season’s matchup with Detroit.

It’s common for some fans to get offended when a former player says nice things about the supporters of another side. However, that does not imply that the player is in error.
